Taking care of a moon cactus isn’t rocket science, but a little TLC goes a long way. Here’s the lowdown:
- Light: Moon cacti love basking in bright, indirect light. They’re not fans of harsh, direct sunlight, so keep them in a spot where they get plenty of filtered or diffused sunlight.
- Watering: Don’t drown them, but don’t let them dry out completely either. Water when the top inch of the soil feels dry. In the growing season (spring and summer), water a bit more, and cut back in the dormant season (fall and winter).
- Soil: Well-draining cactus or succulent mix is your go-to. Moon cacti aren’t fans of soggy feet, so let the excess water escape easily.
- Temperature: They’re not frost-tolerant, so keep them warm. If it’s getting chilly, bring them indoors.
- Fertilizing: During the growing season, give them a diluted cactus fertilizer every 4-6 weeks. No need to feed them during their winter nap.
- Pruning: Not much to do here. If the lower green cactus starts growing faster than the top colorful part, you can trim it down a bit.
- Pots: Make sure the pot has drainage holes to prevent waterlogging.
Remember, these little guys are resilient, so a bit of neglect won’t hurt. Just keep an eye on them, and they’ll be your spacey companions for a long time!
